Patrick deWitt is having a busy autumn. His best-selling novel The Sisters Brothers premiered in movie form at TIFF, with John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix, and Jake Gyllenhaal heading the adaptation. His new novel, French Exit, was released at the end of August and has since been shortlisted for the Giller Prize. It’s made such a splash that it’s being reprinted, with the reprint due at UTP on October 16th (in the meantime, stock is available at North 49).

French Exit is a “tragedy of manners” starring Frances Price, a glamorous force of nature currently mired in the scandal of her late husband Frank’s death (and impending economic ruin). She and her son Malcolm flee to Paris, where they encounter a roster of cooky characters, financial disaster, and the soul of Frank inside a fluffy cat. With deWitt’s classic dark humour, French Exit does not disappoint. Find it at a bookstore near you!
